According to the latest report of IDC on China Computer-based Testing 2006-2007 Forecast and Analysis (IDC 2007), In 2006, a total of 122.7 million candidates participated in the exams for licensure, certification, and academic areas, with a total year-on-year growth rate of 8.9%. Spending on all kinds of tests grew by 13.8%, a bit higher than the growth rate of test candidates, with the total amount reaching US$2,281.1 million in 2006. The testing market revenue will increase at a 10.7% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) through 2010, driven significantly by the strong demand on the vocation-related licensure and certification tests.
The China CBT market was estimated at 26.8 million candidates in 2006, increasing by 19.6% over 2005. The corresponding revenue reached US$321.4 million with a year-on-year growth rate of 14.5%. The market will reach US$52.8 million candidates by 2010 with a 2006–2010 CAGR estimated at 18.5%, over 10 percentage points higher than that of the overall testing market. The market expansion comes from the emerging CBT test fields, the conversion of traditional paper-and-pencil testing (PPT) to CBT, and the growth of the testing market itself.
In 2006, the China CBT delivery services market (tasks that could be outsourced) increased with an annual growth rate of 27.7%, reaching US$18.9 million. With the China CBT market maturing over the past few years, the delivery services market will continue to show strong growth during 2006 to 2010 and is expected to increase at a CAGR of 45.9% to reach US$85.7 million and, hence, account for more than 10.8% of the total CBT market in 2010. |
