In the College English Test (CET), the mostly taken English proficiency test by undergraduates in China conducted on December 19, 2009, over 9800 students were caught with various cheating behaviors nationwide, despite the repeated warnings issued by the Ministry of Education before the test, reported by a local Beijing newspaper.
Ministry of Education has set up stringent rules for cheating behavior for the CET English proficiency test including expulsion from academic status. The cheating behavior will also be registered in the personal record of the students. For those who may break the law, the case will be delivered to judicial authorities to investigate for criminal liabilities. It is learned that about 8.74 million candidates participated in the CET this year, and authorities are now chasing after about 20 people in cases where judicial process may be involved.
